If you’re looking for directions to Kildoo Falls at McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County, you’re in the right place!

Hiking to Kildoo Falls is one of the most rewarding short adventures in western Pennsylvania.

Even before reaching the waterfall, the journey itself is filled with historic landmarks and beautiful forest scenery.

Hiking to Kildoo Falls
The hike to Kildoo Falls as I describe it here covers roughly 0.5 miles, or 1 mile out-and-back.

I set out from the Kildoo Picnic Area (GPS coordinates 40.95206, -80.16835), eager to explore a trail that follows the scenic corridor of Slippery Rock Creek.

From the parking area, I made my way onto the trail (a series of switchbacks and stairs) that begins behind the picnic area restroom and gradually descends through the woods towards the historic McConnells Mill and Slippery Rock Creek below.

Along the way, signs remind hikers to stay on the trail because the rocks along Slippery Rock Creek can be slick and dangerous.

The stairs/trail bring you out at the historic McConnells Mill Covered Bridge and neighboring grist mill, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the park.

After passing these historic structures, the Kildoo Trail follows the forested hillside beside the rushing waters of Slippery Rock Creek.

Continue down the trail for approximately a quarter-mile, until you reach the footbridge pictured below.

Cross the bridge and look for an obvious but unblazed trail that goes up the right side of Kildoo Run.

When you finally reached the waterfall (GPS coordinates 40.95001, -80.17041), you’ll be greeted by a beautiful cascade spilling over a broad sandstone ledge beneath a road bridge above.

One of the highlights of visiting Kildoo Falls is that you can actually walk behind the waterfall, standing beneath the rock overhang while the water drops in a graceful curtain in front of you.

From behind the falling water, Kildoo Falls delivers the same unforgettable perspective found at a handful of Pennsylvaniaโs walk-behind waterfalls.

Final Thoughts
The hike to Kildoo Falls combines natural beauty, fascinating history, and a memorable waterfall experience all in one outing.

Itโs a picturesque destination that perfectly showcases the charm and scenery of McConnells Mill State Park.
