What You’ll See on the Gettysburg Railway Excursion
Passengers board beautifully restored 1950s-era Budd passenger railcars that have been transformed into comfortable modern excursion cars.

Inside, leather lounge seating and large windows provide excellent views of the landscape rolling past outside.

As the train departs Gettysburg station behind locomotive 1863, riders quickly leave the bustle of town behind and enter the open countryside surrounding the battlefield.

Along the route, you’ll see historic farmhouses, barns, and fields that once formed part of the landscape during the Battle of Gettysburg.

In several places, Civil War cannons and split-rail fences line the ridges overlooking the tracks.

One highlight of the ride is the view of the Eternal Light Peace Memorial standing proudly on Oak Hill.

The train passes close to several battlefield landmarks, offering a perspective that most visitors never experience.

Throughout the 15 mile round-trip journey, narration brings the scenery to life with stories about the battle, its leaders, and the role the railroad played in the region’s history.

The excursion also explains how the rail line is used today while preserving its connection to the past.

A concessions car on board offers snacks and beverages for purchase, making it easy to enjoy a treat while taking in the views.

Between the historical narration and the scenic farmland views, the ride is both educational and relaxing.
