Clarion County 2022 Fall Foliage Update

Clarion County Pennsylvania 2022 Fall Foliage Update

I spent a good part of the day on October 10, 2022 looking for the best fall foliage views in Clarion County.

Specifically, I spent several hours exploring Cook Forest State Park, not far from the Clarion River.

I started my explorations at Seneca Point, which is home to both a natural and a man-made scenic overlook.

The natural scenic overlook at Seneca Point is a rock outcropping composed of enormous boulders and chasms.

Here the views are to the south, and the fall foliage was truly beautiful on this day.

A few minutes walk from this rock formation is the man-made scenic overlook – Fire Tower Number 9.

Although you are not permitted inside the observation room at the very top, you can climb the steps to the platform just below, giving you a nice elevated view of the Clarion County fall foliage.

From Seneca Point, I made my way to the Children’s Fishing Pond just below the park office.

This stream-fed pond is stocked with trout, and was on this day surrounded by brilliant fall foliage that reflected nicely off the calm surface of the water.

From here I made my way to the famed “swinging bridge” over Tom’s Run, just a five minute walk from the park office.

I found the bridge suspended in a sea of vibrant golden leaves on this visit.

Crossing the bridge, I picked up the Rhododendron Trail and hiked for a bit in the Forest Cathedral Natural Area, considered to be Pennsylvania’s finest and largest old-growth forest.

Pictures don’t really do justice to how massive some of these ancient trees truly are.

Virtually every moment I spent at Cook Forest State Park found me in close proximity to excellent Clarion County fall foliage views, an experience you can share as well if you get there soon!
