The county was formed in 1810 and is named in honor of William Bradford, second Attorney General of the United States.

The county seat is Towanda, and it is the second-largest county in Pennsylvania by land area (Lycoming County is #1).

1. Knapp’s Covered Bridge

Sitting 30 feet above Brown’s Creek, Knapp’s Covered Bridge has the distinction of being the highest covered bridge in Pennsylvania.

Knapp’s Covered Bridge was built in 1853, and is the only remaining covered bridge in Bradford County.

The bridge is 95 feet long, still open to vehicular traffic, and was extensively renovated in 2000.

Knapp’s Covered Bridge, also known as Luthers Mills Bridge or Brown’s Creek Bridge, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

4. Marie Antoinette Scenic Overlook

The Marie Antoinette Scenic Overlook offers breathtaking views of the Susquehanna River with a unique historical connection to French royalty.

Named after the ill-fated French Queen, this spot is not just a feast for the eyes but a journey into an intriguing slice of history.

After the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, a group of French royalists purchased large tracts of land in Pennsylvania with the hope that it might serve as a safe retreat for themselves and their Queen.

Holcomb Falls is an exceptional roadside waterfall located along Leroy Mountain Road in Bradford County.

Holcomb Falls is located on an unnamed stream that drains Holcomb Pond (thus the name), and while the pull-off is within the public road right-of-way, the falls themselves are on private property.

Thomas Run Falls is a marvelous 20 foot-tall waterfall on State Game Lands 12 in Bradford County.

The falls are located 2 miles west of the ghost town of Laquin.

Keep your eyes open for the remnants of a prior industrial age in this area, for what looks untouched by man now was at one time stripped bare of trees to feed the lumber mills in Laquin.

7. Mount Pisgah County Park

Mount Pisgah County Park is a scenic area known for its lush greenery and panoramic views.

8. The Bradford Falls Trail

The Bradford Falls Trail on State Game Lands 36 in Bradford County is a 1.6 mile out-and-back hike to three incredible waterfalls, all situated in a rugged forest area rich in mining and logging history.

While this is a relatively short hike, it’s rather strenuous with over 600 feet of elevation gain from beginning to end, and features rocky and slippery terrain in many places along the trail.
