The county was established in 1813 and is named in honor of the Federal Union.

1. Mifflinburg Buggy Museum

The Mifflinburg Buggy Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the 19th century, preserving the only intact carriage factory complex in the United States.

The museum complex includes the home, factory, and showroom of William A. Heiss, a prominent buggy maker, as well as a modern visitor center.

2. RB Winter State Park

RB Winter State Park is a 695 acre recreational area located in western Union County, near the Centre County line.

The park lies in a shallow basin, completely surrounded by the rocky ridges of the Bald Eagle State Forest.

The focal point of the park is Halfway Lake, a seven acre lake which is filled by spring-fed mountain streams.

3. Sand Bridge State Park

The park is primarily used as a roadside picnic area; the three picnic pavilions there were built by workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression.

4. Abandoned Alvira Munitions Bunkers

The abandoned Alvira munitions bunkers are remnants of the American WWII war effort, as well as reminders of what lengths the federal government will go to to seize private property for “the greater good”.

In the case of Alvira (originally founded as Wisetown in 1825), the federal government used the courts and eminent domain to force residents to accept buyouts of their homes, so that their entire town could be leveled and turned into a TNT manufacturing plant and storage facility known as the Pennsylvania Ordnance Works.

Today, the Alvira bunkers, as well as remnants of Wisetown, are located in the Union County portion of State Game Lands 252, approximately 7 miles south of Williamsport.

5. Hassenplug Covered Bridge

The Hassenplug Covered Bridge in Mifflinburg is the oldest existing covered bridge in Pennsylvania, and believed to be the second-oldest covered bridge in the United States!

6. Factory Covered Bridge

Factory Covered Bridge, located along Gray Hill Road in Union County just west of the I-80/Route 15 interchange, is a still-drivable span named for a long-gone woolen mill that once stood beside it.

7. Hayes Covered Bridge

Hayes Covered Bridge, built across Buffalo Creek in 1882 just west of Mifflinburg, is still open to passenger vehicles under 6 feet 6 inches tall, while taller traffic uses a bypass that loops around it.

8. Millmont Covered Bridge

The Millmont Covered Bridge, built in 1855, has the distinction of being the longest covered bridge in Union County.

The Millmont Covered Bridge is also known as the Millmont Red Bridge.

9. Lewisburg Antique Malls

Lewisburg Antique Malls is a trio of expansive, multi-vendor antique stores, all conveniently located within a few hundred yards of each other, and all situated just off Route 15 in Lewisburg.


10. Rollermills Antique Marketplace

Rollermills Antique Marketplace in Lewisburg features 400 dealers housed in a restored 1883 flour mill originally built by Cyrus Hoffa, offering a vast array of antiques and collectibles.

Housed in a historic building in Lewisburg that once served as a garment manufacturing facility and later a furniture assembly factory, the Street of Shops features more than 500 vendors, showcasing everything from vintage treasures to handcrafted primitives.

12. Mifflinburg Christkindl Market

The Mifflinburg Christkindl Market is billed as “the oldest authentic outdoor German Christmas market in the United States.”
