Known simply as “The Cross”, this massive symbol of faith was funded and built by members of the Hilltop Baptist Church themselves.
As previously mentioned, The Cross is 108 feet-tall, and its hilltop location makes it visible for miles around.
A fact sheet displayed on a kiosk near the base of The Cross lists many of the construction details.
While the steel outer skin of The Cross is readily visible, the structure is also composed of 175 tons of concrete!
According to a pamphlet available at the kiosk, The Cross was conceived as a place where people could pray or meditate, and as such 4 benches are located around its base.
Visitors are welcome, and there’s a guest book you can sign.
Like the Jumonville Cross has been for nearly three-quarters of a century, The Cross at Hilltop Baptist Church will no doubt become a symbol of hope attracting the faithful and the curious for many years to come.
