Long before governments were mandating it, Pennsylvania’s backroads were a terrific place to “social distance”!

Here are 10 outstanding Pennsylvania backroads adventures that not only lead to interesting destinations, but also take you down scenic roads that are themselves sights to be savored.


1. Bear Gap Road

Bear Gap Road is a state forest road in Centre County that leads to a trail head near Indian Wells overlook along the Mid State Trail in the Rothrock State Forest.

2. Faupel Road

It’s also within a half-hour drive of the equally scenic (and historic) 1806 Old Log Church along the Lincoln Highway.

3. Blankley Road
